Pillow Talk

Can we talk?
About pillows that is...

I'm one of those people who really loves pillows ~ I find them very comforting and the more the better!  So, the other day, I was out shopping at one of my favorite antique shops in the area, and came across this pillow and it truly spoke to me ~ I had to have it!   It's very old and it's got the sweetest bird design on it(I'm not sure the technique used to make it), but I absolutely love it ~ it's definitely my favorite!   The bonus is I only paid 2.00 for it!  I put it on our living room sofa along with some new quilted pillows I just picked up at a really great clearance sale and am so happy with how they look together, so I thought I'd share with you.

Here's a close-up...
does anyone know what technique this is?

One of my favorite places to sit and relax!

 How about you?
Are you a pillow person?
Let's talk!

Tickled Pink!

Okay...It's that time of year again when I usually start to really get a major case of cabin/spring fever, so this weekend I was at one of my favorite natural food stores and picked up a bunch of these(10 total) pretty pink tulips for a really great price and was tickled pink!

What a pick me up!!!

~ Isn't it amazing what some flowers can do ~

...they're food for the soul!

Heartstrings...

I can't believe Valentine's Day is only a couple of days away and if you're like me, I tend to procrastinate and still haven't gotten all my Valentine's cards, so here's a couple of cute card projects I thought I'd share with you.  Whether you're an experienced crafter, or new to card making, these are not too difficult and a lot of fun to make.

~ Pink Dove and Heart on a string ~

This is one of my designs and pretty easy to do.
I made these for Christmas, except I used various linen and snowflake papers
(this would also be nice for a wedding!)

~ First start with a blank card and add any background paper you would like(in this case pink).
~ Use a dove stamp and stamp it with white ink(feel free to use any color) on a pale pink stock paper - then cut it out.
~  Take some string or thin ribbon and cut about 2 inches long.
~  Cut a small heart out of stock paper and paint on some craft glue and add sparkly snowy glitter(I think this adds a nice touch!) glue to the string
~  Attach the heartstring to the dove with some craft glue.
~  Add a padded sticky square to the back of the dove and add to the card(I like giving it a little more dimension).
~ You can either leave the card blank and add your own message,
or stamp whatever you'd like inside.

 You're Done!

~  Heartstrings Valentine card ~

This one comes from Martha Stewart
I made up the name of the card though :)

I KNOW...
Martha     Martha    Martha

I realize not everyone's a Martha Stewart fan, but this happens to be one of my favorite cards.

~  Cut out two heart shapes the same size using medium weight craft paper.
~  Using an exacto knife, start cutting along the outer edge about 1/4" from the edge leaving about an inch attached on one side.
~  Keep doing this approx. 1/4" apart alternating the sides you you leave attached
~  Cut about 5 or so of these leaving a solid heart in the center.
~  Poke a hole in the center heart and thread string through it leaving about an inch on top.(I used about 8 inches, but you can make it as long or short as you like).
~  Tie a knot on the underside of the heart securing the string in place.
~  Add some hearts along the string and at the top of the string to hold it with.( I glued some pink and red hearts together, but you can use whatever you'd like)
~  Glue this to the other heart along the edges.
~  Add whatever message you like...(I used silver gel pen and wrote you really pull my heartstrings)

 You're Done!

What Valentine's day projects do you enjoy?
Feel free to share any of your great ideas.

Hope everyone has a
Happy Valentine's Day
weekend!

Winter's Beauty

Today I felt the need to go out and do a little nature walk and drive despite the frigid cold weather we're having.  I'm always inspired by nature's beauty and I think winter is truly a beautiful season!
...snowbirds welcome!
no bluebirds in our bird house ~ gotta wait 'til spring.

Boy, our snowman is sure getting a lot of attention these days.
Today, this beautiful cardinal decided to visit ~  lucky guy!
~ a vintage wagon ~
~ a horse stable not too far from us ~
...the licking post (lol)

Our hanging basket that I change with the seasons and our "think snow" snowman...I filled the basket with snowflake picks, winter greens and berry sprigs for the winter.
Hope everyone's enjoying the beauty of winter wherever you may be!

Well, what can I say...I love snowmen and love collecting them, so here they are.

The sweet snowman angel all decked out in her star tiara,  is one of my favorites...I got her at a cute shop in a quaint town in Geneva, Il. where I love to shop!
I think this snowman looks nice next to the snowflake pillow I made.
I know.   I'm cute!

Twiggy the snowman!
Our little snowman tree with glittery snowball ornaments... I leave this up all winter.

Got Snow? - The Blizzard

We woke up to a winter wonderland and snow drifts around 5 feet high in our back yard.  Our little snowman is peeking through the snow drift happy to not have gotten buried!

Did I mention snow drifts???

...sledding anyone?

Our neighbor building a snow cave - he didn't get too much farther than this! (lol)

Stay Warm Everybody!

Home Sweet Home...

Welcome to my little corner of the world!  I thought it would be nice to share a few of my decorating tips along with a little look into our home.   I really believe that home is where the heart is, so make it truly yours!

Here's some of my snowmen and birdhouse collection displayed on a vintage shelf.

Here's a sweet display idea:  Take a vintage cake plate and drape the laciest vintage doily on top, add a cloche, and fill it with whatever you love...in this case, some chippy birdhouses.  This looks good almost anywhere and is so easy to do!
I took a vintage painted sap bucket and filled it with pretty sunflowers and set it on a vintage child's chair ~ simple and sweet!
My creative space where creative juices flow and where much of my time is spent on my computer when I'm not working on my jewelry (making it, anyway.)
